Social Media Trends for Outdoor Brands April 2026

Why Outdoor Brands Feel Stuck - Bekah Whitney - Ecoteric Marketing

Outdoor brands are great at talking about their products. But when it comes to social media, many brands fall into a pattern of posting the same types of content over and over: product shots, scenic landscapes, and occasional promotions.

Trends offer an opportunity to break that pattern.

When used intentionally, trends help brands:

  • Reach new audiences through the algorithm
  • Show personality (this is the big one)
  • Tap into online culture
  • Create content that actually feels current and shareable

Each week, I’ll break down 5 trends outdoor brands can adapt in ways that feel authentic to their audience and will increase their engagement.

Trend: Touch me again and you'll find out who I really am!

Trend Recap: The subject acts like they are going to get in a fight with someone, but instead pitches themselves and their business.

Why this works: Another context switch that grabs your audience’s attention right away. This reel acts like it’s going to show you a fight, but then switches to this, nicely sharing with the audience about the business.

How to use it: Ask a friend to give you a little push with this tag line, then share your 10-15 second elevator pitch! Try to do your full pitch in one take. This will work particularly well on trail reels!

Trend: Why do you like...

Trend Recap: Talking to the camera video where you explain what you love about your activity of choice, then cut to you struggling doing that activity.

Why this works: This pokes fun at the fact that outdoorsy people often romanticize the good times and selectively forget about the struggles.

How to use it: This will be a little bit more of an involved shoot as you need to talk to the camera footage and you’re out in the wild, but the payoff will be worth it!

Trend: MOUNTAINS!

Trend Recap: Match this audio of Steve Harvey from Family Feud, “Name something that gets you more excited than being with a woman…MOUNTAINS!”, with photos outside with mountains in the background.

Why this works: Family Feud is a classic comedy game show that most people will know. This brings in a level of humor while also showing off your product being used to make people happy.

How to use it: Use this trending audio (cut out the first part where she is describing her thoughts)  and add photos or videos of you or your product being used outside with mountains in the background. This will work espically well for backpacking and hiking gear!

Trend: POV to Cinematic

Trend Recap: Start with a POV shot that has a curiosity hook, then switch to a cinematic shot that tells a story. The shift in style hooks the audience!

Why this works: We will see this again and again. Context switching gets views! The curiosity hook makes you look closer, and then before the viewer can completely figure out what’s going on, it switches to cinematic shots.

How to use it: Just like in the example, have someone film a moment that looks a little embarrassing from the outside, then switch to how it’s actually glorious.

Trend: Oh wait, it might actually be all sunshine and rainbows

Trend Recap: Use this trending audio with a “struggling shot” and then switch to beauty shots!

Why this works: It’s the classic context switch that grabs your audience’s attention right away. This reel acts like it’s going to give a doom and gloom message, but ends up giving you the opposite.

How to use it: Think of a shot of you struggling to design your product, or a shot of what it looked like before your product was introduced. Then switch to shots of your product being used in the wild with happy customers.

Tips on Leaning into Trends on Social Media

How to Use Trends Without Looking Cringey

The biggest mistake brands make with trends is copying them exactly.

Instead, successful brands adapt the structure of a trend to fit their audience and story.

For outdoor brands that looks like:

  • Showing real adventures
  • Highlighting community members
  • Featuring products in real environments

The goal isn’t to look like every other account using the trend.
It’s to make the trend feel like your brand.

Things to Remember

The brands that benefit most from trends are the ones willing to experiment quickly rather than spending weeks producing a single post.

Often, the most authentic, lightly edited content performs best.

Here are some things to remember when producing trend following content:

  1. Keep videos short (7–12 seconds performs well

  2. Make sure the hook is shown within the first 2 seconds

  3. Your product shouldn’t be the star, but try to show it somewhere in the shots OR refer to how your product could help in some way in the caption.

  4. Don’t over-produce. Trends move fast. If you spend too much time creating them, they might be over by the time you post them.

  5. Prioritize authenticity. Following trends helps engage and grow your following.

Pick one trend each Week

You don’t need to try all five trends each week.

Start by picking one that feels natural for your brand and experiment with it this week.

Social media trends work best when they are make sense with your brand, are rooted in real experiences, and focused on connecting with your niche.
