- Social Media
Outdoor brands are great at talking about their products. But when it comes to social media, many brands fall into a pattern of posting the same types of content over and over: product shots, scenic landscapes, and occasional promotions.
Trends offer an opportunity to break that pattern.
When used intentionally, trends help brands:
- Reach new audiences through the algorithm
- Show personality and humor
- Participate in online culture
- Create content that feels current and shareable
Each week, I’ll break down 5 trends outdoor brands can adapt in ways that feel authentic to their audience and will increase their engagement.

Trend: This is who...
Trend Recap: Add childhood photos of your team and a simple description of their job inside your organization.
Why this works: The reasons this trend works so well in the outdoor industry is that it gives people an inside look at who is working at the company and a simplistic view of what they do at the company.
How to use it: Although this could be modified into a reel, most people are using this as a carousel. As an outdoor brand, lean into photo of employees playing outside. This is not a beauty contest, try to find a photo that is a bit silly. As for the caption, make sure to keep it as simple as possible. You don’t have to describe everything you do, just one piece that your customers will be able to connect with.
Trend: Tent opening trend reveals
Trend Recap: First-person view inside a tent opening onto a beautiful scene. Feel free to get funky with this and add in something surprising after the tent opens. Right now this trend is mostly showing a beautiful view, but this could quickly turn into reveals of all kinds.
Why this works: This trend builds suspense. The viewer knows that something is going to be revealed so it keeps them watching.
How to use it: You’ll notice that creators are leaving the audio of the tent unzipping in the audio. Make sure to do this because it helps create the suspense.
As I mentioned earlier, this trend can easily be used to reveal new products or even something funny. You could even set up your tent inside to get a similar effect.
Trend: Do you want to grab coffee?
Trend Recap: Add the text “Do you want to grab coffee?” on the scene and then instead of coffee inside a cafe, make or drink coffee outside.
Why this works: This trend plays on the fact that outdoorsy people love to do things a little differently. They still love coffee, but want to enjoy it in the woods with a beautiful view.
How to use it: There are a couple of different ways you could play on this trend. You could add mutiple scenes of you getting to the place and making the coffee, or just make it one shot of drinking coffee in an outdoor scene.
Which way you choose depends on how easy it is to incorporate your product into the reel.
Trend: Me I don't smoke or drink because I want to live longer, Also Me...
Trend Recap: Add the text
“Me: I don’t smoke or drink because I want to live longer. Also me: “
and a video of you doing your favorite, slightly dangerous, outdoor activity.
Why this works: This pokes fun at outdoorsy people being super health-conscious, but also risking their lives with the activities they love.
How to use it: Easy one-shot of the activity with the activity that makes the most sense for your space.
Trend: The answer to all my problems probably isn't BLANK, but I better double-check
Trend Recap: Add the text
“The answer to all my problems probably isn’t BLANK, but I better double-check.”
Fill in the blank with something that is meaningful to your niches favoritre activies.
Then add a video of you or someone going to that place.
Why this works: This pokes fun at the fact that outdoorsy people spend a lot of their time outdoors doing their favorite activities instead of focusing on other things.
How to use it: This can be a sequence of videos going to the destination or just a short clip of someone outside doing your niche’s desried activity.
Week 1 - March 2026
Trend: Wait, what's your therapist's name?
Trend Recap: Add the text
“Wait, what’s your therapist’s name?” for 2 seconds, then add text relevant to your niche.
The best performing reels will start with a video of a person, and then switch to the same person doing activities that make sense with your niche.
Why this works: This pokes fun at outdoorsy people, saying that the outdoors is therapy as well as pointing out that nature and outdoor activities create endorphins.
How to use it: Use the text “Mother Nature”, “The Moutains”, a specific place, or even an activity.
Trend: Type 2 Kind of Fun
Trend Recap: Share the times when being outdoors wasn’t so fun, but you made it through!
Why this works: This pokes fun at the fact that outdoor activities don’t always go as planned and sometimes are a suffer fest. This shows that your brand understands the outdoor niche.
How to use it: Use the text “Anyone could invite you for a drink, only real friends invite you to suffer,” then add footage of times that weren’t so good on an outdoor activity.
Trend: Send this to someone you want to go BLANK with
Trend Recap: Footage of something that your niche loves to do, and telling them to send it to one of their friends.
Why this works: This trend asks people to send your post to others, which will automatically get more engagement.
How to use it: Add one scene of an outdoor activity that your niche enjoys with the text “Send this to someone you want to BLANK with.” Make sure the activity in the footage matches the text.
Tips on Leaning into Trends on Social Media
How to Use Trends Without Looking Cringey
The biggest mistake brands make with trends is copying them exactly.
Instead, successful brands adapt the structure of a trend to fit their audience and story.
- For outdoor brands, that might mean:
- Showing real adventures
- Highlighting community members
- Featuring products in real environments
The goal isn’t to look like every other account using the trend.
It’s to make the trend feel like your brand.
Things to Remember
The brands that benefit most from trends are the ones willing to experiment quickly rather than spending weeks producing a single post.
Often, the most authentic, lightly edited content performs best.
Here are some things to remember when producing trend following content:
Keep videos short (7–12 seconds performs well
Make sure the hook is shown within the first 2 seconds
Your product shouldn’t be the star, but try to show it somewhere in the shots OR refer to how your product could help in some way in the caption.
Don’t over-produce. Trends move fast. If you spend too much time creating them, they might be over by the time you post them.
Prioritize authenticity. Following trends helps engage and grow your following.
Pick one trend each Week
You don’t need to try all five trends each week.
Start by picking one that feels natural for your brand and experiment with it this week.
